SAFETY RULES FOR THE PROTECTION OF DRIVERS AND SPECTATORS:
1. 70's/80's & Newer Class Only hardtop automobiles. (No pre 1967 Chrysler
imperials,Jeeps, Trucks, Taxis, Limo's, Hearses or Ambulances) will be eligible to
compete. No smash topwagons, smashback sedans/wedged trunks ,no folding of
quarter panels over trunk lids
Smashing of tops of rear quarters through out will be consider wedged.
Fresh runs:Maxium of three inch dip will be allowed. Trunk lids must remain in original
location
Gauged from rear quarter to rear quarter ( must be able to gauge minimun of three
places across and two places diagionally)
Reruns Max of 5" dip in trunk(must be able to gauge min of two (2) places across and
two (2) places diagionally.
2. The following MUST be removed: All glass except windshield, original gas tanks
(see rule #14), all seats (except driver's seat), head lights and taillights, all chrome,
wipers, antenna, door handles, mirrors and sun visors, rear compartments of station
wagons, and all other loose items.
Compact may leave original tanks under car IF IN FRONT OF REAR AXLE
3. Cars may be welded using 3" welds every 3" or 6" welds every 6" on passenger
doors, trunks and station wagon tailgates (in lieu of outside welds, station wagon
tailgates may have a 3"x3"x1/4" angle 3" long welded on inside every 3"on the bottom
only ) but not both. You MAY NOT weld both inside and outside. Or cars may be wired,
banded, bolted and chained in the same way. Drivers door may be welded solid if
desired. Banding every 6" on passenger doors and trunks. Bands no larger than
1-1/4" wide. chains must be at least 1/4". No welding or bolting to frame and bumpers.
No body seams may be welded! No wires from body to roof includes windows
4.Patches:Rusted cars may be patched.(Patches must be Tin)strictly enforced. Stitch
weld patches 1" on 1" off. Patch one side only( you must prove your rust)
5. Reruns: Rerun fixes must be stitch welded only- Allowed at the discretion of the
officials. Stitch weld spilt seams 1" every 6" on reruns only. Do not add metal. For
drivers safety, rerun cars must have trunk/tailgate bent down or have an opening cut
to see backward.
6. A steel bar or pipe (maximum 3 "diameter) may be mounted securely behind the
drivers seat, from door post to door post (not to floor). A steel bar or pipe (maximum
3") may be mounted across the dash also. Recommended mounting plate size to be
no larger than 6" x 6" x 1/4"flat plate (NO CAGING) Postless cars may have one (1) 3/8
x3" plate from sheet metal to sheet metal in place of post.
OPTIONAL: A Halo Roll Cage may be put on pipe behind the driver's seat. It can be
welded to pipe behind seat. Halo may touche door or door post on driver's side, but
cannot be welded or attached in any way at that point. Halo can have (5) 1 inch welds
on the roof on each side. Halo may not travel more than half way across inside of car
from drivers side. (Maximum Diameter of 2 inches)
7. Only stock wheels can be used. Valve stem protectors will be allowed. All wheel
weights must be removed. All threaded through rims is not permitted
8. Any tire 15" Max. No LIQUID MATERIALS IN TIRES, water,foam, cement etc is not
permitted
Air only !!!
9. No special bracing or reinforcing of suspension or body. Front bottom control arm
(only) may be welded to max. Bumper height. Body mounts may not be removed or
moved. No over sizing or washering of original bolt or mount. Body mounts to 1/2"
max with 1 (one) 3"x1/4" Plate. Strictly enforced! stock rubber from mounts must be
visable throughout. Plate or washers may NOT be welded or Bolted to frame.
9(a) There will be no welding of seams Maximum of 2" overlaps on front frame, repair
at jack point allowed on reruns if it had to be replaced. Weld repairs for reruns in
front of control arm must be butt welded. (No Exceptions)
10. Shocks must be stock, working shocks, mounted in original locations. No
homemade shocks no welding of eyes. No circle track shocks or off road shocks
11. Fender wells may be cut out. Inner and outer panels may not be welded or bolted
togetheranywhere. No riveting of inner and outer fenders, hoods or trunks.
12. Vehicles must have hood in place. Hoods must have stock hinges in place and
must be open for inspection. Six (6) 1/2" bolts or 4 (four 3/4 bolts max with no larger
than a 3"x1/4" washer to hold hood down. Min. 8"hole (with excess sheet metal
removed from hole) MUST be cut in hood to enable firemen to put out fires without
lifting hood. Make sure cooling fans are covered. Strap or wire from roof to cowl is
mandatory for drivers safety
13. Bumpers may be cut to remove sharp edges. No
extra reinforcements (bolts, washers, etc) chain around bumpers may be welded or
bolted to bumper shock to keep bumper from falling off. Chains may not be heavier
than 3/8" (No welding of links together) Relocating of bumper shocks is not permitted.
Front and rear bumper height to be 22" Max. to bottom of bumper, checked in three
places. Maximum of 1/4" plating may be used no larger than 4"X4" welded onto the
bumper shock plate if a different make bumper is being used on car. RERUNS:
BUMPER HEIGHT MAX OF 24" CHECKED IN THREE PLACES NO EXPOSED FRAME RAILS,
NO PROTRUDING BUMPER SHOCKS WILL BE PERMITTED. (MUST BE ABLE TO UNBOLT
BUMPERS FROM CAR-NO WELDED ON BUMPERS)
14. Battery mounted to floor (not in seat) must be separated at least 5 feet from
relocated gas can and secured firmly in place. Batteryshould be covered. Only 1
battery is permitted, any size (i.e. 12 or 14 volt, - NO 24 volt batteries allowed).
15. Relocated gas container must be secured firmly behind drivers seat in metal
approved cans only (boat cans will be accepted). Cover tank to prevent possible
splashing. Compact Class only, may relocate tank inside car but must have a kill
switch on the fuel pump. NO PLASTIC CANS
16. Radiators can not be relocated. May be banded (two bands maximum) to core
support vertically or horizontally. chrysler radiatormounting bracket to be
3"x3"x1/4"x6"long Max.To be mounted to core support.OVERFLOW must be pointed
toward ground& attached to car so it will not spray forward. No expandable foam.
WATER ONLY. No antifeeze(crowd safety)
radiators may have window screen to protect from flying objects or mud. Homemade
grates or grids will not be permitted. No homemade cover plates. Home made cooling
systems may not touch any part of frame or metal on car. Attached to engine only.
17. All cooling systems must be under the hood. No cooling systems inside the car
(driver compartment). This means transmission coolers also.
Air cleaners will be mandatory.
18. Coil springs may be welded, wired, banded, bolted or chained (bottom only) to rear
end! No coils inside of coils. Spacers will be allowed in coil springs to max. 22"
bumper height.
19. Brakes must work. No deliberate hitting of arena tires for braking purposes.
20. Skid plates may be welded on oil pan and transmission pan (separately), no more
than 1" wider than the part
21. Must bcut 2 (two) holes , 8" minimum in trunk for inspection
Maxium of six 3/8 "bolts allowed around holes removal from inspection line if not cut
out.
22. STAY IN CAR AND DO NOT LOOSEN SAFETY BELT UNTIL EVENT IS STOPPED OR
OVER.
23. After second fire in same auto, in same event, the car will be disqualified.
24. No deliberate hitting of drivers' door. Do not use drivers door as a shield
25. No teamwork (double-teaming).If deemed necessary, the officials may stop an
event and make the double teaming drivers hit back to back. Second stoppage is
cause for disqualification of one or both drivers.
26.NO fresh PAINTING OF INSIDE OF CARS!!! No undercoating underneath, inside or on
frame
27.Inspections will close at 7:45, DRIVERS MEETING AT 7:50
DERBIES BEGIN AT 8:00 P.M., CARS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTEDON GROUNDS AFTER 7:30
P.M. DRIVERS MUST BE WITH THEIR CAR NO LATER THAN 7:30 P.M.NO EXCEPTIONS.
28. Exhaust coming out of hoods must be pointed straight up.If exhaust is considered
to be pointed in a direction of danger to the fans or other drivers the car will be
disqualified.
29. The officials reserve the right to re-inspect cars at any time during the event.
30. Leaf springs: All cars with leaf may have 9 springs on each side including the main
springs may be 5/16" thick max. (if 5/16 wrench WILL NOT fit over spring YOU WILL
NOT RUN) (2) two - 3/4 " wide and must have min. of 1" stair step starting from the
eyebolt. All springs must be mounted under the main axel tube. Springs may be
clamped with factory tin clamps only, 2 behind axel and one in front per side. (no duct
tape ) Home made leaf springs not permitted.
New Rule: Maximum 5 Bolt rearends on cars. NO TRUCK REARENDS
